When a confused and desperate Caroline leaves the hospital and joins her friends at the Mystic Falls Carnival, Damon wants to take immediate action, but Stefan and Elena come to Caroline’s defense. Matt is completely mystified by Caroline’s behavior, but still tries to tell her about his feelings for her. Damon has suspicions about Tyler’s Uncle Mason and uses Tyler’s volatile personality in an attempt to get Mason to reveal his secret. Upset with everything going on around her, Bonnie takes her anger out on Damon.

I love how Caroline goes to Stefan when she’s worried or stuck in a problem. Even when Matt was “missing”, the first person she told was Stefan. Stefan’s been there for her, he helped her through her fears, pain and disgust when she turned into a vampire and he’s saved her many times. Caroline’s always been the “giver” in any relationship she has had with men — Damon was a big ass to her, but she still tried to gain appreciation from him, she left Matt because she thought it was better for him and she helped Tyler out through his problems — she’s put all of them first but they haven’t when it comes to her, it’s only Stefan who sees her problems and gives her what she needs but doesn’t say. Plus, Stefan doesn’t coddle her, he doesn’t treat her like a China Doll, he knows she’s strong, he knows she can take care of herself, but he also knows that sometimes a friend needs comfort and help. Because he and Caroline are alike, they both turned without will, they both hate what the bloodlust does to them (killing innocent humans and losing their sense of self) their parents (his dad and her parents) were disgusted with who they had become (vampires), they both were used as bloodbags as humans without them even knowing then (Damon to Caroline and Katherine to Stefan).. they strive to be “perfect”, they don’t want to let down their loved ones, they hide their flaws..they’re both more insecure then they let on..and that’s why they understand each other, that’s why they connect. They’re alike. They appreciate each other, it’s not a one-sided friendship where they give more then they get and they’re comfortable with each other, they’re open because they just don’t have to pretend with each other.
